Learn about how the Contra Costa RCD partners with ranchers to combat drought and protect our natural resources. While we can't control drought or rainfall, we here at Contra Costa RCD can help improve the water holding capacity of these ponds, working to make sure that they last through summer and provide water for livestock and wildlife.

Contra Costa Resource Conservation District partners with ranchers to combat drought and protect our natural resources. We recently wrapped our 9-part webinar series focusing on cover crops, benefits and challenges, and how to integrate them into a variety of specialty cropping systems. Since Oct. 2020, we’ve worked with agriculture professionals, research scientists, and farmers to provide this.

Because the Delta crosses multiple county lines, CCRCD works closely with both Yolo and Solano RCDs to restore habitat throughout the Delta. As one of the largest estuaries in the US, the Delta is an important habitat for fish, shorebirds, and other wildlife. All anadromous fish from the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers migrate through the Delta.

Check back monthly as the EcoStewards blog about our "Weed of the Month", what we're seeing on the landscape, why we're managing it, and how you can help. This month, we focus on Stinkwort, Dittrichia graveolens, and we commonly see this weed in areas that have been recently disturbed, likely brought in accidentally by construction or other vehicles.

If you’re annoyed by the occasional leaf blower noise in your neighborhood, consider how birds and waterfowl react to a weed whacker running for hours in the Delta. With the support of the Contra Costa Fish and Wildlife Committee, the Contra Costa Resource Conservation District (CCRCD) has invested in battery-powered tools to reduce noise and air pollution.

The Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed (FOPCW) are celebrating two decades of collaborative projects that have made the watershed a healthier home for nature and the community. A banner proclaiming the 20-year milestone is now on display at the southern end of Tennent Avenue in Pinole, and the Pinole City Council will recognize FOPCW with a proclamation at their August 17 2021 meeting.
